Hey, hello, and welcome to my blog! Before I get started on why I started this blog, I wanted to thank you for visiting my website and coming along on my journey through life.
So, why did I start this blog? To answer that, let’s take a wander back to visit a younger me, a shy girl with a worn-out library card. My appreciation of words and reading started at a young age and has brought me far in my journey of self-discovery and education. Growing up in an immigrant household where English was not usually spoken, going to the library was profound in my language development. My favorite childhood memories include mid-morning visits to the library, walking up the stairs to afternoon piano lessons, and curling up with a book at the end of a long day. My passion for reading was further accelerated by the Maud Hart Lovelace reading lists and program in my elementary school. I was introduced to a variety of books from many genres and levels, which heightened my understanding of the world around me and helped me think critically about the circumstances that I faced and the people that I met. In 2015 and 2016, I qualified for the National Spelling Bee, and those two experiences in Washington, D.C. have changed me forever. It opened my eyes to a wider world filled with all types of curiosity, where people were not afraid to pursue their dreams.
Speaking of dreams, my site tagline describes me as a dreamer, student, and human. I spend a lot of time dreaming about a myriad of things, like many, and writing down my dreams and thoughts has given me greater mental clarity and enjoyment.
Reading has been a steady hobby throughout my life, shaping my worldview and providing a refuge when the outside world feels chaotic. My love for reading has inspired me to write, but not frequently enough. My daily journal entries are filled with personal thoughts, lamentations, and occasionally, drawings. They’re abounding with things about me, but I want to write about more than just myself.
With this blog, I hope to cover a wide range of topics, many of which cross my mind frequently but that I do not take enough time to reflect on. I recently came across this quote:
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” -Pablo Picasso
Creativity is an essential element of what makes us human, but the older I get, the less creative I feel. I don’t spend enough time being creative or even allowing myself to be creative. A part of it is that self-censoring side of my brain, which suppresses the ideas that come to my mind and wags a finger at my creativity muscle. I want to feel free to create whatever I want, whenever I want, and this blog will be one of my mediums.
I hope to publish a post on a consistent-ish schedule. That’s another thing- sometimes I work on projects for a long time but never publish them because they aren’t “good enough,” or I lose motivation. Hopefully, this blog will keep me accountable, help me grow and organize my thoughts, and foster deeper connections with the world in general.
Well, there is so much to explore, so welcome aboard!
